Marriott International

Marriott's key goal in redesigning the "Specials and Packages" section of Marriott.com was to increase sales of special offerings via that part of the web site. Important objectives in support of this goal were to improve the user experience, to provide personalization for Marriott Rewards members, and to effectively convey the value of the current specials. Two significant outcomes of the redesign were re-architecting the search functionality to improve the relevancy and presentation of results and renaming this section of Marriott.com "Deals." Because the requirements for the personalization and search functionality were complex, I wrote detailed functional specifications and use cases to describe how the site should perform.

Sample pages redesigned and personalized for Marriott Rewards members:

I did many other information architecture and content strategy projects for Marriott, including these:

  • Join Marriott Rewards process and form
Consolidated and redesigned the form as one page instead of three pages, eliminating all unnecessary form fields and steps.

  • Competitive analysis of "find a hotel" search functionality
Produced 300-line comparison of search on six major hotel web sites: Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Starwood, InterContinental Hotels, and Choice Hotels. (This document is proprietary.)

  • Personalization for Marriott Rewards members
Created a scheme for recognizing Rewards members and offering them personalized content throughout Marriott.com. Wrote functional specifications as well as Guiding Principles for Providing "Remember Me" Personalization, which were published on boxesandarrows.com.
